Transfer of 88 Iranians sentenced to imprisonment in Malaysia to Iran
In order to support Iranians living abroad and provide judicial and consular support to Iranian citizens, and following the agreement between Iranian and Malaysian officials to transfer prisoners between the two countries, with the follow-up of the embassy and coordination between the responsible departments in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice, and the International Police of the two countries, finally on Wednesday,May7 2025, 88 Iranians imprisoned in Malaysian prisons, including 14 women and 74 men, were transferred to Iran with special facilities provided by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The charges against these prisoners were drug-related crimes and they had been sentenced to imprisonment based on sentences issued in the Malaysian judicial system. Two Malaysian prisoners in Iran were also transferred to Malaysia in this regard.
At the ceremony to transfer these prisoners, Valiullah Mohammadi, Iranian ambassador to Malaysia, emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while striving to protect the rights of Iranians and inform compatriots about Malaysian laws and regulations in order to prevent crimes, has seriously pursued the issue of transferring convicts to the country by establishing judicial cooperation with Malaysian parties and in line with humanitarian goals and respecting the well-being of the prisoners' families.
